My great, great grandfather, Jabez Cox was transferred from the 59th Regiment North Carolina Troops, (4th Regiment North Carolina Cavalry) to Company B 68th Regiment North Carolina Infantry on April 1, 1864.

Alfred lived in Gates County. Enlisted on March 15, 1864. Believed to have been at Salisbury Prison in the fall of 1864, serving as part of the guard detail.

John Mercer Willey 26 Dec. 1846-19 June 1939 of Deep Creek in Norfolk Co. VA enlisted in Co. I 68th NC State Troops commanded by Col. Hinton. He served with both Gens. Lee and Johnston and saw active service for ten months in some of the most important battles in the Tar Heel State including the battle of Lenior County and Bentonville. he was never wounded. Last native born survivor of the Confederate War in Norfolk county and last surviving member of the Neimeyer Shaw Camp of the Confederate Veterans at Berkley.
